Task One:

Watch the above video and consider what kind of Gamer would you say you are? Then take the Bartle Gamer Psychology Test and see what result you get? In your own words explain the four types and to what extent you identify with your result. You can screen shot the results and then reflect on them on your blog. Think of an example or two of your gaming experience that might illustrate the findings.

Task Two:

Watch the above video and discuss who are the different target audiences for this game?

The trailer for Wired mentions that these puzzles are informational about physics, electricity specifically. The presenter says that the puzzles are some that A-Level physics students would have trouble answering. This makes it seem as though it's targeted towards younger players around the ages of 12-15 to inform them while they've got a fair grasp of the information without excelling at it. The story is apparently weird and quirky, something that those of that age would enjoy.

Task Three:

Play the game in Chrome. Do you still agree? How has playing it affected your answer?

My opinions haven't changed too much apart from that I think the story may be a bit too odd for an audience of 12-15 so I would raise the target audience age to 14-17 because I think it would put off the younger audience. The challenges get very difficult towards the end which would be tiresome for a 12 year old too. The game would only be interesting to the stereotypical 'freaks and geeks' as it's a mathematical and scientific game, not an epic adventure with hyper-maximum 4K 3D graphics.

Task Four:

Pen Portrait

Task Five:

Discuss what is it that would influence the audience to play HellBlade

The unconventional nature of HellBlade: Senua's Sacrifice will attract people to play this video game. The perfect mix of exploration and adventure with fighting and intensity matches the gameplay of very popular video games like DmC: Devil Mac Cry, also made by Ninja Theory.

Task Six:

Here is the link to my 2nd trailer

Task Seven:

Write a short paragraph explaining why your pen portrait typical audience member is going to enjoy HellBlade

My Pen Portrait Audience Member is going to enjoy HellBlade: Senua's Sacrifice because it has two distinct sections throughout the game. There is the, puzzle solving, walking parts where the action is minimal. The second section of the game is the fighting sequences, where you fight mythical end devilish creatures to save Senua's life. Both of these two portions appeal to my targeted audience member as they're a fan of both intense fighting and casually playing video games. The intensity of Firewatch mixed with the detail and beauty Everybody's gone to the rapture are captured in this game to be the perfect entertainment for my audience member.

Task Eight:

Explain what aspects of HellBlade the target audience is going to like best.

The attention to detail in HellBlade: Senua's Sacrifice will grab the eyes of my target audience as they prefer games that have been built from scratch, with love, and through a long time.

Task Nine:

What are the key influences on the target audience?

A developer's name has a lot of weight in the Video Game Industry so when Ninja Theory, the developers of the critically acclaimed DmC: Devil May Cry, announces that they were creating a brand new IP people got excited. With this previous game being of fantastic quality, fans expected a similar game in terms of substance. HellBlade's mix of exploring and fighting matches DmC very well which is one reason for the hype.

The target audience for HellBlade: Senua's Sacrifice are modern and young adults and are very forward thinking. This means that the cover of the video game's physical copy breaking the typical mold of 'big man with gun' caught the eye of those who weren't already interested.
